Do a Science Experiment, Hands on Craft, or Other In-Home Activity
With so many of our children learning virtually these days, it is important to get away from the screen and into hands on learning/activities as much as possible to keep kids engaged, prevent burnout, all while allowing them to learn through doing. The Julia’s table Kids in the Kitchen eBook highlights 4 super fun activities to try, including: •Building an Obstacle Course using whatever you have around •Making your own Slime •Making a Sensory Bin and •Creating a Time Capsule. My daughter and I chose to create a Time Capsule and had a blast doing it. We used an old oatmeal container and decorated the outside with construction paper, pompoms, and glitter. We cut and glued numbers to mark the date of our time capsule. Aven and I wrote out question and answer strips detailing her current age, favorite food, favorite color, favorite toys and more. We rolled the strips, tied them with pipe cleaners and put them into the time capsule with other trinkets and memories. This activity was a great way to enjoy a moment of fun and creativity together, and also have a meaningful keepsake for years to come.

Get Out Into Nature
Oftentimes, there is an entire world of new things to discover right in our own backyards. From plant life, to hundreds of species of insects, birds, and other animals. The opportunities in nature are pretty much endless. Skate, ride a bike, jump rope, play hopscotch, draw with chalk or simply blow bubbles. Depending On the age of your child, some of these activities can be done independently, while others may require more guidance or supervision from an adult. When the weather allows, my daughter and I love taking walks in our neighborhood or at a local park.Cook Together
In our house, cooking is one of those things that happens several times a day. Which means that there are plenty opportunities for me to invite my daughter into the cooking process. She has tons of fun helping, she learns a lot, and It’s a great alternative to her being idle or sitting in front of a screen.
