When I was growing up, the most exciting thing about the holidays, was the food and the exchanging of gifts. As an adult, I’ve come to appreciate so much more about the holidays and have a renewed perspective on gifting. I still love gadgets, clothing, and all the tangible stuff, but now I realize that special moments and memories created with family and friends are to be cherished most of all. These special moments don’t call for many frills or fuss, but simply require intention. They also aren’t confined to one specific day of celebration. Below I’m sharing 3 things to keep in mind while gifting loved ones this season.
Gift your time
Our loved ones often benefit most from the quality time we spend with them. Rather than buying expensive gifts this season, think about ways you can give of your time. A simple movie night, trip to the park, showing up for an extracurricular activity, a foot massage for your partner, or even family game night, are just a few of the ways you can prioritize your time to include those you love. For example, my daughter and I shared an impromptu girl’s night filled with laughter and some of our new favorite things from Paper Source. We cozied up on the couch sharing vegan cocoa, some delicious pretzels, and had tons of fun. We broke open our Big Night In kit and put the ceramic mug, mindfulness puzzle , and patchouli scented candle to good use! The Big Night In box also comes with cozy socks and a sleep mask that came in handy later that night.
Gift Little Things that Enhance Simple Experiences
Think about your loved one’s favorite fruit or snack, consider incorporating their favorite colors, inviting aromas, and other interesting touches that liven simple moments.
For instance, as my daughter and I talked about her day, I lit my beautifully scented candle with a gorgeous rose gold rechargeable USB lighter from Paper Source. I let her wear the cutest Pom Pom slipper socks and listened as she talked and munched on her favorite pretzels.
Such a simple, intentional evening made a great impression on my daughter. By setting aside time and a space for us to connect, I know she felt heard, loved, and appreciated. I felt at ease, and free to release the pressures of the day. These moments are the ones that will help to strengthen our bond eternally and build a healthy mother daughter relationship that will blossom for the rest of our lives.
Gift Yourself
Don’t forget to give to yourself this season while you’re focused on celebrating others. Often as a mom, I get so caught up in providing the best life I can for my daughter, that I end up neglecting many of my own needs. I’m learning that taking care of me really does put me in better position to take care of her.
Once Aven’s bedtime came around, I was able to enjoy some much needed quiet time. I journaled for a bit in my Turquoise Suede Foldover Journal. I also sipped a more adult beverage in my metallic tumbler, also from Paper Source. I find that being able to download my thoughts onto paper helps my emotional and mental well being tremendously. Doing it in style is quite awesome too!
