It‘s officially Fall and officially football season! I’ve never been a die hard fan but I love anything that brings family together and gives us a reason to celebrate. Since my mom’s passing, it’s been especially important and actually healing for me to spend time around my loved ones. I don’t get to see everyone very often, but when we do get together , it always feels like coming home after a long trip away.
This year, I decided to put together a quick tailgating party for the family to enjoy. When I say quick, I really mean quick, no intense planning or fuss over anything. It only takes a few key components to make a party like this work. Below I’m sharing 4 ways to make your own, no-fuss pop up tailgating party.
Food
The main ingredient to any tailgating party, besides the game on the screen, is the food. My dad and the rest of my family are loyal to our local team and have tons of team spirit! All that cheering and excitement usually leaves everyone with a pretty big appetite. I decided to pick up a catering box from Jersey Mike’s, which feeds 10, and comes with absolutely everything you need to host. Each sandwich is made fresh with quality ingredients and can be dressed however you like. I also love that the subs are pre cut into the perfect size. You only need one hand for holding, and you can use your free hand for cheering on your favorite team. Jersey Mike’s Subs definitely hit the spot!
Theme
Having a theme definitely says “party” and since it‘s the beginning of Fall, I chose to pick up a simple, plain tablecloth and add a few props to bring it to life. Pumpkins, dry corn, and some decorative leaves were really all I needed. I like using reusable items as much as possible, like my tablecloth, and this “straw” which is really a Hawaiian table skirt I used at my daughter’s first birthday party. Themes can be as basic or as extravagant as you like and only require a little creativity.
BYOB
I think it‘s a great idea, if you have the time, to have a themed drink. If you don’t have the time, encouraging people to bring their own is a great option. Considering the theme, suggest that partygoers bring ciders, soda, water, or their own, preferred libations.
Dessert
For a pop up tailgate party, having a simple dessert on hand is a great way to celebrate the winning team, or console the ones who gave it their best lol. It‘s also a perfect tactic for gently dropping cues that the festivities are coming to a close. Here’s my version, “Alright y’all, make sure you grab a cookie or a brownie on your way out!” Jersey Mike’s makes it easy with their cookie and brownie trays! They are delicious.
However you decide to celebrate, make cherishing your family and friends top of the list.
