Being a Queen isn’t easy. It means that you have responsibilities, and people to take care of. You carry yourself at a high standard, have great expectations, and command respect. A queen may be kind and loving, but most importantly, is a leader. She is a leader in her family and community. Being a queen takes hard work, like getting to the top of your profession, or building your own business. Implementation of lessons learned, strong work ethic, and commitment to the cause, are all traits many great queens have in their possession.
Teresa Mendoza, the queen in USA’s Queen of the South, possesses these qualities and more. Her rise from the bottom as an apprentice, to her reign as Queenpin of her own drug empire, took the guts and determination that any successful queen or boss babe must have in order to create the life they want for themselves. Teresa knows her power, makes her own rules and refuses to live any other way than her own. Season 3 of Queen of the South is definitely a “can’t miss” event and premieres Thursday June 21st at 9/8 c. So grab your favorite snack and watch along with me every Thursday at 9/8 c!
Although I’m not a “queenpin” like Teresa, I wear my own crown and title as Queen proudly! Being a first time mom, and new entrepreneur, I am learning even more about myself and what it takes to reign as queen over my goals, responsibilities and set a strong example for my daughter. Below I’m sharing a few factors that are crucial for “Making it Reign” in business and in motherhood.
Be Present
Try to live in the moment. Enjoy the journey you’re on without being so focused on the destination, that you fail to remember how you got there. In motherhood, friendships and other close relationships, be there, actually listening, actually engaging in the activity of the moment. It’s easy to drift, think of other things, and get distracted, but make a habit of being fully devoted to each moment, as often as you can.
Be Dependable
Do what you say you are going to do. Your reputation in business is so important and can totally make or break relationships. As a parent, being dependable develops an invaluable amount of trust between you and your child.
Give your Best
Always offer your best work. Your best, in time, will become better. Giving your absolute best reaps the greatest rewards.
Know your Worth
Respect yourself, respect your business. Be confident in your abilities and in what you know you can deliver and don’t let anyone shortchange you.
Get Comfortable Saying No
Some things are not worthy of your time. Some things present a conflict. If someone is asking something of you that will hurt you to deliver, don’t be afraid to say no. In motherhood, I say No all the time. There are some things that are of no benefit to my child and may actually cause her harm. By saying No to these things, I am helping to protect her future and teaching her boundaries.
Celebrate your Wins
Stop and smell the roses. Throw yourself a party. Take a picture of it. Think about how far you’ve come, remember and celebrate your accomplishments. Doing this helps you to maintain perspective. It also helps to combat those feelings of not being good enough or not being where you want to be. In motherhood, there are so many milestones to reach with your child. Celebrating them helps to keep you reminded of the progress you both are making and helps your child feel proud of their accomplishments.
Have a Plan
Take the time to at least loosely map out what you want to be able to achieve through your business. Work towards it. Re-Ajust the plan as needed. Having a plan keeps you on track and allows you to see you progress as well as goals you still would like to achieve. As a mom, my plan is to raise a healthy, kind, and happy child who sees no limits for herself and what she can achieve.
It is my hope that every Queen in the Queendom will realize her power and wear her crown with pride. Watch and follow along with Teresa’s reign as queen of her empire in USA’s Queen of the South premiering Thursday June 21st! I can’t wait to hear what you think about Queen of the South!
